Dishwasher Christianity

Surprisingly dishwashers have been around since the late 1800s, but they didn’t show up in households until the 1950s. Needless to say this girl born in the 80’s has always had a dishwasher. They all work alike..right?

My husband and had one in an apartment one time that was SOOO loud. When it came time to search for a dishwasher for our new home we literally searched by the amount of decibels it ran at.

I promise I’m going to make a point.

We bought our dishwasher in 2017 and I never once read the manual. The picture above is the settings. I shut it and push start.🤷🏻‍♀️

The other day I was laying in bed thinking about the top rack of the dishwasher (yea this is what my life at 35 looks like).

The top rack has these special little washers. I think they are where you can put wine glasses to make sure they are rinsed, but I always put my baby bottle and sippie cups there. I started thinking about the settings and wondering…

“Is there a certain button you have to push to make those work? Were my bottles even washed well? Can that dishwasher do more cool things? I need to get out the manual!”

Men… this is why we are so distracted 🤣this what we think about.

ANY WAYS…..

I then switched my mind to the ultimate manual. The manual that God gave us to live by. For years and years I treated my Christianity like that dishwasher.

I knew the basic ins and out of it what it means to be a Jesus follower but there were so many parts I wasn’t experiencing because I had not truly examined the manual.

There were so many parts I was causing harm because I wasn’t aware of the areas that needed to be purged.

Things change. Church changes, society changes, and ultimately people change. You know who doesn’t?

The word.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

John 1:1 NIV

We have the life manual. God gave us the word and it is our responsibility to use it.

Did you know you’re supposed to clean the dishwasher filter?!?

I didn’t! (And I still haven’t 🤪)

Playing off the dishwasher thing one more time. We have life filters that need to be changed as well. Society is constantly evolving and filling our minds with junk and it clogs up our view of reality. We have to stop and take notice of what and who is doing that.

When we start diving into Gods word we learn about things we never knew were there.

Are you getting everything you can out of your relationship with God or are you just going through the motions of Christianity.

Sunday- church, lunch, nap and church again

Wednesday night- church again

Rinse and repeat.

If you live like that, that is only two out of seven days your are committing time to God, and really it’s not God you’re serving; It’s the church.

Are we supposed to serve in church? Yes

Is attending church a service? No. You are serving as a number to the church and that is all.

Get out that Bible

Blow off the dust

DIG IN!

Pray for a yearning of Gods words … he WILL give it to you… I promise.

Lord,

You are amazing. You are never changing and all inspiring. Thank you for my random thoughts and Lord I pray we would all move away from this “dishwasher Christianity”

I pray we would get out the word, study it, pray it and ultimately LIVE IT! Thank you for bringing life back into my dry bones. Thank you for giving me a passion for other Christian’s who need a kick in the tail as well. I pray the person reading this will have a fire lit in them. Lord while I’m thanking you.. thank you for dishwashers because they are amazing and I love the luxury 🤣

Amen!
