It’s 5 o’clock somewhere

We are in a devastating era of our generation. Most of the information we get comes from our phone. I’m here to challenge you to put your phones down! Pick a time, may be 5pm everyday and rid your mind of any thoughts about COVID! If you become worn down well before your time to stop then just QUIT, after all it is “it’s five o’clock somewhere”

Next month is mine and my husbands 10th wedding anniversary. It’s hard to believe we’ve been married that long. It’s like we just met but also like we’ve been together forever.. I know.. WEIRD 😂

For our honeymoon we went to the riviera maya, Mexico. At that time WiFi wasn’t a big thing and we weren’t able to use our phones. We had them in airplane mode and had no distractions. Boy was it a different time 😆

Look at these dorks! Proof I wore tennis shoes with dresses before it was cool.

Of course the close approach of our anniversary causes me to reminisce, but an agreement we made there has held the test of time … mostly 🤪

We made a pact to put our phones away on date nights. The funny part is phones weren’t as all consuming as they are now. We have slipped up every now and then, but for the most part we keep true. we both know how important undivided attention is.

With the fourth wave of COVID going strong I’ve had my nose in my phone CONSTANTLY!

Researching, encouraging, and mindless scrolling my feed to see the next big dramatic story that has 5k comments. Comments consisting of bullying and downright demonization of people based off their personal choices.

It is so incredibly disheartening and I’ve grown weary of it. Over the course of our marriage we’ve had arguments surrounding our lack of presence when we are literally sitting right next to each other. These disagreements have helped me grow more aware of my inclination to become consumed with something.

I’ll admit. I’ve been consumed with the current situation of our city, state and country.

I have this NEED to help.

There must be balance.

I have a husband and two little girls who NEED me.

Are you consumed by the current situation we are in?

Do you read every little thing that pops up. Get angry, sad, hopeful and then mad again all in the same sitting.

Put the phone down, turn off the TV and look at what’s around you. I am not saying stick your head in the sand by any means.

Only work during business hours. Jobs end daily for a reason. Vacations are part of jobs for a reason.

Mental Health

If your mental health is suffering. It’s time to take a vacation from the science, media, all of it.

Take a break.

PRAY instead getting on your phone.

I issued a challenge to my disciple group last week. We all have watches that periodically tell us to “breathe”. Every time our watch tell us to do this, we pray while we breathe. If you don’t have that function, get creative and take time consistently throughout the day.

“Never stop praying.”

1 Thessalonians 5:17 NLT

“Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!”

Psalms 116:2 NLT

“Pray that the Lord your God will show us what to do and where to go.””

Jeremiah 42:3 NLT

“Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to no one but you.”

Psalms 5:2 NLT

“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.”

Romans 8:26 NLT
