Tell Me What You Do, Do

I have serious obsession with connecting all things to Friends. So, with this title IYKYK (If you know you know) you gotta read it to try and get the joke …haha

A while back I wrote a blog solely on my daughter saying that chocolate milk is a fruit of the spirit. I was so moved by her thoughts because I knew that her teacher had been teaching the fruits of the spirit at school. This ignited a fire for me. You see, the fruit of the spirit is the basis of being a believer. It is also the basics of teaching children how to act.

It’s even funnier when my four year old quotes it on me..haha. Raising kingdom children is one of the most difficult tasks, but also the most rewarding.

I want you to notice I said “Kingdom Children”. It’s easy to just sit around and let your kids grow up, but its hard to teach them how to be loving, productive people in our society. I genuinely could care less what people say about how I raise my kids. I would bet that you feel same way. It’s a feeling I have to squash, because how people perceive my children; matters.

How they are perceived will lead to the opportunities they are offered. Misbehaved brats won’t get ahead.

The same goes for us as adults in our daily walk with our Father. I am going to be going through the fruits of the spirit over the next several weeks. We need to go back to the basics if we want to get ahead.

You can find the fruits of the spirit in Galatians chapter 5. I would be remiss if I didn’t start like Paul and tell you what is NOT fruits of the spirit.

We will start in Galatians 5:16-21

I want you to get your bible out and read it. If you have the Bible app, click on over and come back..i’ll still be here. Our smart phones make it easy 😉

Now that you’ve read the desires of the flesh, how you feeling?

I love how Paul starts with

“walk by the spirit and do not gratify the desires of the flesh”

He answers the how before he ever tells you the what.

It’s simple. We must walk by the spirit.

Paul writes that the flesh is EVIDENT. Let’s take that apart.

The Greek work for evident is -φανερός  which translates as visible; evident; known

The works of the flesh are visible

The works of the flesh are known

We know what it looks like to live by our fleshly desires. It is the things that our human, sinful nature gravitates to.

Sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, first of anger, rivalries, dissensions, division, envy, drunkennesss, and orgies.

I don’t know about you, but my human nature reads through these and I pick apart what I’m not. Let’s be honest, that makes you feel better. Who wants to say what they are.??

That is hard.

Look at that list again and pull out the ones that you struggle with, tell me what you do, do. 🤣💩

Now that you giggled a little, Simmer on it for just a moment.

Now. I want you to find you a quiet spot today. I want you to posture yourself in a position of surrender. Maybe it’s on your knees, maybe it’s sprawled out in the floor looking like you DFO (done fell out), maybe it’s sitting with your hands on your face; elbows on knees….. IT DON’T MATTER…

Throw your hands up

Give it up.

Ask for forgiveness.

I’ll pray to help ya out…

Dear Lord,

Oh how I have failed you.

I. Am. Sorry.

Please forgive me for __________.

Please show me other places I’m failing. Lord I ask that you free me of this sin and guilt. Thank you for sending your son to die for me. I am not worthy. I choose to surrender and Lord I want to live a life that produces fruit. Give me wisdom. Reroute me. I pray you will soften my heart to hear your voice clearly. I love you lord

I’ll see you next week when we dive into to the fruit of the spirit!
