Truth is the Word, The Word is Truth

As you can imagine, posting weekly lends to running out of things to say. I’ve been struggling with this aspect and as I was praying over this, God showed me something.

I haven’t been in His word enough.

That one hurts but it’s the truth. I have weekly readings that I complete, but I haven’t been digging deep like I should. I amped up my prayer life and I’ve slacked on worshipping in truth.

As with every relationship, quality time is important. You can’t expect the alliance to thrive if you don’t have meaningful time together.

Why did I use the term “alliance”, well for one it’s a synonym for relationship that I found 🤣 and second, God is our ally! He is who helps us fight the daily battles we come in to contact with.

The word is the sword of truth and it’s impossible to fight and win a battle without a sword.

I’ve been reading the book of John and wow has it been encouraging. I want to be more like Mary Magdalene! In John 20 Mary arrives at the tomb and Jesus is gone.

““Dear woman, why are you crying?” the angels asked her. “Because they have taken away my Lord,” she replied, “and I don’t know where they have put him.”” John 20:13 NLT

Jesus had been gone three days and Mary was so distraught when she realized his body wasn’t in the tomb. I don’t know about y’all but I do not respond this way when I’ve gone three days without communicating with my maker.

Should I? Absolutely!

I’ve neglected quality time with Jesus. We are so fortunate to have the Holy Spirit, our advocate.

My best days are always the days I am tune with the Holy Spirit and following His lead.

My worst days can usually be tracked back to not praying and selfishly making my decisions.

“They do not belong to this world any more than I do. Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth.” John 17:16-19 NLT

There it is.

The word is truth.

Cool part about this verse, Jesus prayed for us!

My senior year of high school my English teacher asked us to write a paper answering the question “what is truth?”

I remember being so dumbfounded by that question and I wish I could find what I wrote.

I was dumbfounded because I thought everyone knew the word is truth! I was so appalled that there are people in our world that don’t know this.

When we use the word as our sword, questions like “what is truth” spills out of us almost involuntarily.

One thing I’ve noticed helping me discern the Holy Spirit speaking is reading the word and only the word.

Do I read other devotionals and Christian books? absolutely!

I love reading what people get from the scripture! That’s what you’re reading now 🤗

Where I’ve been failing is reading too much outside of the word. If you want to hear what God says to YOU, then you can’t read someone else’s opinion along with it.

Take time to read scripture, only scripture.

Pray over that scripture and ask God to show you great and marvelous things.

“Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions.” Psalms 119:18 NLT

Join me this week in meaningful worship in truth. If you feel led, comment what God has shown you through your personal study.
